Hahahahahaha “relentless heterosexuality” is an amazing turn of phrase! It was less that - I long ago came to accept that as standard with Nalini, alas.
The book just felt kinda phoned in - there was a lot of repeated wording and not for emphasis, just seemed due to sloppy editing, and they took ages to do basic stuff we’ve come to expect, like sensing things through the mating bond.
In all fairness, Silver was previously one of the characters I was most intrigued by so I had a lot of high hopes going in. I just didn’t see anything that marked this as something different enough from the previous books to qualify as the start of a new series - if anything a lot of it felt recycled. I loved all the stuff with Silver’s grandmother but I wish we could’ve had that with a stronger profile of Silver herself, instead of ‘generic Psy woman forced to admit feels when confronted with obnoxious Changeling male that has no sense of boundaries.’
And YES - I would love to explore more about the parallels between Empaths and Healers!
